Sometimes you aren’t confused. Sometimes your mind is simply too loud for you to hear what you already know.
There are days when nothing is actually wrong...
but something feels off.
That was my Saturday.
I woke up after sleeping pretty well. I had a slightly scratchy throat, probably from sleeping with my mouth open, but otherwise I was fine.
I had plans to meet a friend for lunch.
Nothing complicated.
Lunch. Get my car washed. Pick up dog food for the kids. Come home.
That was it.
And yet, as the morning went on, I found myself thinking:
I don’t really want to go.
Then:
No, I do want to go.
Then:
Maybe I should stay home.
Then:
But I actually want to get out of the house.
Back and forth.
Back and forth.
Until I had somehow turned going to lunch into something requiring far more consideration than going to lunch should ever require.
At one point, I thought about telling my friend I wasn’t feeling well.
And technically, I wasn’t feeling 100 percent.
But that wasn’t really why I wanted to cancel.
The truth was much simpler.
My mind was doing too damn much.
When Thinking Becomes Noise
Eventually, something clicked.
I wasn’t confused.
I was overthinking.
Those aren’t necessarily the same thing.
And I think that’s an important distinction, especially for those of us who have spent years learning how to anticipate, analyze, prepare, protect, and think our way through life.
Sometimes thinking became part of how we survived.
We learned to look at every angle.
Consider every possibility.
Read the room.
Look for what we might have missed.
Prepare for what might happen next.
That ability can serve you extraordinarily well.
Until it doesn’t.
Because eventually, the same mind that learned to keep you safe can start trying to solve things that aren’t actually problems.
And suddenly:
Do I want to go to lunch?
becomes:
Why don’t I want to go?
Is this intuition?
Am I tired?
Is something telling me to stay home?
Am I avoiding people?
Should I push myself?
What does this mean?
And before you know it, you’ve convened a full board meeting in your head over a sandwich.
😂
Not Everything Is a Message
This realization landed a little differently for me because I’ve spent a significant part of my own journey looking for meaning.
Meaning helped me.
There were times when I couldn’t see where my life was going externally, so I needed to believe something was happening internally.
I paid attention to synchronicities.
I looked for patterns.
I trusted my intuition.
I found meaning in things I couldn’t yet explain.
And I’m not rejecting any of that now.
What I’m beginning to understand is that not everything requires interpretation.
Sometimes I’m tired.
Sometimes I don’t want to go.
Sometimes I change my mind.
Sometimes my nervous system wants quiet.
Sometimes my brain has seventeen tabs open and somebody needs to start closing a few of them.
That’s not a spiritual crisis.
That’s Tuesday.
Or, in this case, Saturday.
Maybe You Already Know
I think there’s a point in becoming where something changes.
For a long time, you may need reassurance that you’re moving in the right direction.
You may need signs.
You may need confirmation.
You may need to believe in something before you have enough external evidence to call it real.
And then, little by little, something shifts.
You stop asking quite so often:
What does this mean?
And start recognizing:
I know what this is.
That’s where I caught myself today.
I didn’t need another answer.
I needed less noise around the answer I already had.
That’s a very different problem.
Because if you’re genuinely confused, more information might help.
But if you’re mentally overloaded?
More analysis can take you even farther away from yourself.
The Quiet Kind of Clarity
We’re conditioned to expect clarity to feel dramatic.
An epiphany.
A breakthrough.
A sign.
A lightning bolt.
But I’m discovering another kind.
The quiet kind.
The kind that arrives when you stop wrestling with yourself long enough to hear what’s underneath all that thinking.
It doesn’t scream.
It doesn’t make an entrance.
Sometimes it’s simply:
Oh.
There it is.
And perhaps part of becoming is learning to trust that kind of clarity too.
Not because you’ve stopped being intuitive.
Not because you’ve stopped being spiritual.
But because you’ve become familiar enough with yourself that everything doesn’t have to become a mystery before you’re allowed to trust what you know.
That feels like growth to me.
🌿 Soul Reflection
Think about something you’ve been turning over and over in your mind lately.
Then ask yourself:
Am I genuinely confused or is there simply too much noise around what I already know?
Don’t rush to answer it.
Just notice what happens when you make that distinction.
Because sometimes you don’t need another opinion.
Another sign.
Another hour of thinking.
Sometimes you need enough quiet to hear yourself again.
And maybe the answer has been there the whole time.
Thank you for continuing to walk through this becoming with me.
Maybe we don’t need to decode every moment anymore.
Maybe sometimes the lesson is simply:
Natalie, either go to lunch or stay your ass home. It really isn’t that deep.
😂
And somehow, even that feels like progress.
With grace,
Natalie
